Stone Brewing 14th Anniversary Emperial IPA

As I did in Season 3 I decided to start off this new season of Barry’s Beer Reviews with a Stone Brewing special release beer. Emperial IPA is an American style double IPA brewed with all British ingredients all of which were specially imported for this special brew. While many English IPAs are quite mellow [...]

Founders Double Trouble (Double IPA)

Founders Double Trouble IPA Double IPA 9.4% ABV 86 IBU Winter Seasonal Serving: 22oz off growler line at New Beer Distributors (NYC) Appearance:  pours a hazy golden body with gleeming light orange with strew highlights at the base of the glass. Three Floyds Dreadnaught Ale

Here I review one of the better Double / Imperial IPAs that I’ve has in a while. Definitely well balanced for the style, especially for a beer that clocks in at 99 IBUs and 9.5% ABV. If you can get your hands on a bottle I’d definitely recommend it.

Vlog: Updates While Drinking Bell’s Hopslam

Here I discuss the status of Season 4 of Barry’s Beer Reviews, my homebrew which is in the works, and some other things on my mind relating to craft beer, all while drinking a delicious bottle of Bell’s Hopslam.

Ninkasi Tricerahops Double IPA

As a “Hop head” I struggle from time to time in picking go-to or favorite IPAs. Ninkasi Tricerahops fit into the group of IPAs they I would drinking on occasion for their fullness of flavor and total malt/hop balance. Upon first sip this beer reminding me of both Avery’s DuganA and Captain Lawrence Captain’s Reserve [...]

Smuttynose Big A IPA: 7th Night of Hanukkah

Tasting Notes: Appearance: Pours (into tulip glass) a hazy orange to gold color with a nice off white head that sticks and left a decent amount of lace up the sides of the glass, Moderate carbonation. Smell: Pretty balanced aroma for a Double IPA. As the beer warmed up the alcohol esters blended well with [...]

Moylan’s Hopsickle Imperial Ale “Triple Hoppy”

Tasting Notes: Appearance: A very nice typical IPA color i.e. deep golden color with an orange-red tint to it and some carbonation clinging to edges of glass. Aroma: Mmm…hops! A nice amount of citrus and pine, not much malt but overall a balanced aroma. More sweet citrus and bitter grapefruit came out as the beer [...]

Port Brewing’s Hop-15 Ale (Double IPA)

With 15 varieties of hops this well crafted Double/Imperial India Pale Ale was very well balanced. The high ABV was well hidden too and the hop bite was no where near being overdone. In my opinion, what sets this beer apart from other beers of its style is that the citrus hops flavors and rich [...]
