Yuengling Traditional Lager

Although Beeradvocate classifies this beer as an American Amber/Red Lager because it’s a lager and is amber colored. In my opinion (I’m pretty that I’m not alone on this one), it should be classified as an American Adjunct Lager because of this information from the Yuengling website: http://www.yuengling.com/brewed.htm i.e. they use CORN in their beer. To its credit Yuengling Traditional Lager is pretty drinkable and decently flavored at the suggested serving temperature of 40-45F

Appearance:  light amber with a formidable soapy white head that lasts as well as expected with slight hints of lacing left behind.

Aroma: Soft lager notes are accompanied by mild caramel undertones and light pilsner grassy/fruitiness Undertones.  Light on hops, only a mild floral-herbal note comes through.

Taste: Caramelization of the pilsner malts give a little extra f;avor and boldness; there’s maybe a touch of toasted grain and roundness to the bready pilsner malts. Again, light floral hop flavors give another soft layer of variety to the beer. However, the corn grits do some through and do not become overwhelming as soon as some other macro lagers. The sweet caramel notes were actually enjoyable while the beer was cold.

Mouthfeel/Body: Fairly light, nearly thin in body. At times the mouthfeel was quite crisp and smooth towards the end.

Drinkability/ Overall: A tasty little session beer that won’t drain your pocket. Don’t expect to be wowed by  this beer. Deserved respect since it is brewed by America’s Oldest Brewery and even with the corn taste I’d drink this with a meal. 5/10
